Description 
The Division of Housing Code Enforcement has a variety of functions, all dedicated to keeping the housing stock in Jersey City safe and comfortable for its inhabitants.  Among the activities of Housing Code Enforcement are:

• Respond to tenant complaints about deficient housing conditions
• Perform annual field inspections
• Provide referral service for property owners in need of financial assistance
• Perform heat and hot water inspections 
• Enforce Chapter 254 (Jersey City Property Maintenance Code)
• Maintain 24 hour emergency heat hotline (201) 547-4821

The Office of Code Enforcement is a member of the Mayor's Quality of Life Task Force.

Housing Code Enforcement Now At The Hub
On Tuesday, September 22, 2009, Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy and the Municipal Council welcomed three new divisions to the Housing, Economic Development and Commerce Department Annex at the Hub, 360 Martin Luther King Drive. An alternative to the main office at 30 Montgomery Street, the annex provides ample on-site parking and is part of the Mayor’s initiative of making government services more accessible to the public.

The three divisions joined HEDC's Office of the Construction Code Official, which had been located at the annex since 2007.

In addition to Housing Code Enforcement, the HEDC City services now available at the Hub include Tenant/Landlord Relations, Community Development and the Office of the Construction Code Official.

The HEDC Department Annex at the Hub is open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While representatives from Tenant/Landlord Relations, Office of the Construction Code Official, and Housing Code Enforcement are available throughout the week, residents should be aware that the Community Development satellite office at the Hub is open only on Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call (201) 200-0677.
