** MUNICIPAL COURT TO HEAR SCHEDULED APPEARANCES IN VIRTUAL COURT SESSIONS **
*In-Person Sessions Remain Suspended*
to Mitigate Public Exposure to COVID-19 


To help minimize foot traffic at the courthouse during the COVID-19 pandemic, Jersey City Municipal Court will hear scheduled appearances in virtual court sessions using Zoom video conferencing.  Beginning June 22, 2020, all sessions will resume virtually for scheduled court cases.  For matters with a mandatory court appearance, individuals will receive a notice in the mail with court date information and instructions to participate.

To plead Not Guilty and request a virtual hearing for traffic, parking, and ordinance tickets with
non-required appearances, individuals may submit a 
Plea of Not Guilty form.

Attorneys:  Please send letters of representation to the court via email at letterofrep@jcnj.org.  The subject line should include the client's name and summons/ticket number.

Beginning May 11, 2020, defendants may make payments for Municipal Complaint Time Payment Orders, in addition to parking and traffic matters, through the municipal court’s online payment website at NJMCdirect.com.
Payments will also continue to be accepted at the court payment window or by mail. 
The court payment window is open Monday-Friday,  8:30am-3:00pm.

MUNICIPAL COURT

Window attendant at Municipal Court.According to the State of NJ Judiciary website, "the Municipal Courts in New Jersey are considered courts of limited jurisdiction, having responsibility for motor vehicle and parking tickets, minor criminal-type offenses, municipal ordinance offenses, and other offenses.  A Municipal Court usually has jurisdiction only over cases that occur within the boundaries of its municipality.

"Serious criminal cases, such as robbery, auto theft, or assault, may start out as complaints filed in the Municipal Court but are transferred to the Superior Court located at the county courthouse."

Monday – Thursday:   8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Court Payment Hours:
Monday, Wed-Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday: 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.  

Call Center Hours:
Monday - Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
