WOMEN, INFANTS & CHILDREN (WIC)

Mother and her Baby
The WIC program safeguards the health of low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age five. The program strives to provide nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, breastfeeding know-how, and referrals to health care.

WIC is a USDA program piloted in 1972 to address growing concerns over malnutrition among low-income mothers and young children.

MATERNAL HEALTH AWARENESS DAY

Knowing What's at Stake

January 23, 2025 11AM - 2PM
1 Jackson Sq. Lobby

You are invited to join the Department of Health & Human Services in highlighting issues of maternal health and awareness.

Year after year data has shown that maternal mortality rates in the United States are unacceptably high among Black and American Indian or Alaska Native pregnant and postpartum people experiencing health inequities.

This year’s theme is “Know What’s at Stake”. By knowing what’s at stake collectively we are reminded that we can’t afford to lose any more ground.

So today is about raising awareness on all that could be lost:

  • Autonomy
  • Lives
  • Equity
  • Reproductive Freedom
  • Communities
  • Security
  • Futures
