When cleaning up damage from flood water, please see the following guidelines:
- Discard any wooden dishes and utensils, plastic utensils, baby bottle nipples and pacifiers that have come into contact with flood waters. Thoroughly clean all other food preparation items and surfaces in areas in contact with flood waters.
- Inspect your home visually for signs of mold. Signs of mold include a strong musty odor and stains and discolorations on walls and ceilings that change color or size. Persons with asthma and/or allergies should not remove or otherwise expose themselves to mold. Discard any moldy items with protective gloves and clean surfaces with a solution of 1 cup bleach to 1 gallon of water.
- Leave any objects which were wet for more than two days outside to dry.
- Discard items which cannot be cleaned thoroughly or dried completely such as leather, paper, wood, mattresses, carpets, and any cloth items which cannot be washed in hot water.
To clean flood-damaged items and surfaces, please see the following guidelines:
- Do not mix bleach and ammonia or other cleaners. Use a solution of no more than one cup of bleach mixed in one gallon of water.
- Wear rubber boots and gloves, goggles, and an N-95 mask
- Open windows and doors to maintain ventilation in areas being cleaned.
- Rinse items and surfaces in water.
- Ensure all washed items dry as quickly as possible.

If you lost power or had food items come into contact with flood water, please see the following guidelines:
- Dispose of any food items which came into contact with flood waters. This includes any food not in a waterproof container, including anything with a screw cap, snap lid, pull top, or crimped cap. Through out any cardboard or paper liquid containers or home-canned foods.
- Inspect any canned food for signs of damage, such as swelling, leaking, puncture, rust, or severe denting. Discard any damaged cans.
- Undamaged food cans and waterproof pouches should be thoroughly washed and sanitized for two minutes in boiling water or for fifteen minutes in a solution of one tablespoon of bleach to one gallon of water.
- If your refrigerator or freezer lost power for a period of four hours or more, check the appliance thermometer to see if the temperature is above 40 °F. Any perishable food which have been above 40 °F for more than two hours must be disposed of.
