JC Dog LicenseDivision of Animal Control handles the dog licensing for residents of Jersey City. All dogs in Jersey City must be licensed and wear their license tag. Click here for the digital Dog License Application.

Licensing your dog allows cities to collect important information about the animals living within their borders, and ensures that those animals are vaccinated against rabies. It also helps cities plan for future investment in public amenities like dog runs and parks, track population changes, and alert animal owners in the event of an emergency.

All other animal services are provided by Liberty Humane Society's Animal Response Team. LHS's Animal Response team is a group of dedicated Animal Control Officers and Investigators and is the main point of contact for all stray animal concerns in our service areas. They are responsible for everything from call dispatch, to animal rescue, to public education and resources.

Spay Neuter postcard
Liberty Humane Society is offering highly subsidized spay/neuter surgeries for only $10 to Jersey City residents for their community (outdoor) cats and pet dogs over 40 pounds.  This includes a FREE Rabies vaccination, necessary to protect outdoor cats and to obtain a Jersey City Dog License.  Spaying and neutering allows animals to live a healthier and less stressful life. It also helps to control pet over-population by preventing unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. Surgeries take place in Liberty Humane Society's mobile surgical clinic, operated by People For Animals (PFA), right here in Jersey City.  To apply for $10 spay/neuter services for pet dogs over 40 pounds and community cats, please click here.
