The Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services is dedicated to providing health and social services to residents of all ages through an array of programs. For the first time in decades, all Health & Human Services divisions are housed at one location, creating greater ease for residents in need of support. Coronavirus Information

Click here for the Jersey City Covid-19 Info page.

2019-nCoV is a respiratory infection caused by a novel (new) virus that arose from the area of Wuhan, China in December, 2019. Most of the early cases of this illness were linked to a large seafood and animal market suggesting possible animal-to-person spread of the virus. The market closed on January 2, 2020 as part of the investigation and response to this outbreak.

The Jersey City Department of Health & Human Services is in contact with local, state, and federal health officials when any possible case is identified in our area.

The CDC recommends taking the following general precautions, as with any respiratory illness:
• Wash hands often with soap and water. If not available, use hand sanitizer.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands
• Avoid contact with people who are sick
• Stay home while you are sick and avoid contact with others
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing

Currently there are no vaccines available to prevent novel coronavirus infections.
This is an evolving situation. For updates, reference the CDC and NJ Department of Health websites.
