It outlines the role of the City Clerk as well as the responsibilities of candidates and campaign managers. In certain instances, the New Jersey State Statutes are provided. This webpage is intended to serve as a helpful reference. It is the responsibility of each candidate to be familiar with the laws governing local elections. In particular, each candidate is required to comply with the provisions of the New Jersey Campaign Contributions & Expenditures Reporting Act. Candidates are strongly encouraged to review the Compliance Manual for Candidates, 2021 Edition, produced by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. For the first time ever, as a consequence of the State of Emergency necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and in accordance with Executive Order of the Governor #216, candidates will have the option of filing petitions electronically. Instructions on how to utilize this option are provided on this webpage as well.
