Safety Demonstration Project - PS 5 (3rd St & Merseles St)3rd

The Division of Transportation Planning of the City's Department of Infrastructure will be installing a temporary safety demonstration project at the intersection of 3rd Street and Merseles Street to evaluate potential enhancements to school safety at PS 5. The Division has developed plans to install a pedestrian safety island and curb extensions at the intersection following engagement with the school community. Students will paint murals inside of the island and curb extensions.

The temporary configuration will be installed on Monday, June 12th and students will paint murals on Tuesday, June 13th. The Department will evaluate the operations and improved safety during a two-week period and may consider converting all or portions of the configuration using more permanent materials.

Please complete the community survey on the demonstration project - responses will be collected between Tuesday, June 13th and Monday, June 26th.
